Now, I at first had a difficult time comprehending the event taking place. I don't feel the book is well organized.
Anyhow, I believe that this chapter or section of the book that Esperanza is having a dream. The things she talks about are truly enough what she feels about herself. I do think that Sally was a person in the dream that didn't truly exist. If you think about it she is almost describing herself in describing Sally. She is out of place suddenly without all of her friends from back home. Sally has lost her friends and is out of place in that she was abandoned by her friends. It's obvious to me that she is simply comparing herself to a character from her own symbolic dreams. Esperanza, now that I think about it, a lot of her experiences could be thought of in this form. :/
